New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Katee Robert continues her smoking-hot series about the O'Malleys-wealthy, powerful, and full of scandalous family secrets.
Greed. Ambition. Violence. Those are the "values" Olivia Rashidi learned from her Russian mob family-and the values she must leave behind for the sake of her daughter. When she meets Cillian O'Malley, she recognizes the red flag of his family name . . . yet she still can't stop herself from seeing the smoldering, tortured man. To save her family, Olivia sets out to discover Cillian's own secrets, but the real revelation is how fast-and how hard-she's falling for him.
Plagued by a violent past, Cillian is more vulnerable than anyone realizes. Anyone except Olivia, whose beauty, compassion, and pride have him at "hello," even if she's more inclined to say good-bye to an O'Malley. While his proposal of sex with no strings seems simple, what he feels for her isn't, especially after he learns that she belongs to a rival crime family. Cillian knows that there is no escape from the life, but Olivia may be worth trying-and dying-for . . .
I received this book for free from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
I could not speak more highly of the O’Malley’s than I already do and An Indecent Proposal is no different. Katee Robert brings readers back into the Boston underground ruled by the various crime families with the O’Malley’s having one of the biggest stakes. This time we’re given the story of the youngest son, Cillian and his journey of navigating his new life without his youngest brother. Thrown into the mix is Olivia, a mysterious bartender who can’t seem to outrun her own demons while possibly, and finally, finding her own place in the world.
I didn’t want to like Cillian. I really didn’t. From the snippets I’d seen of him in the previous books he seemed like a spoiled rich kid and played it up as well. He loved to party and have a good time no matter the consequence. That all changed when his brother is murdered in front of him and he begins a downward spiral, but ironically not one involving the vices he was used to. No, he became sober and actually joined the family business. He just started coasting through life until he meets Olivia.
Olivia has a storied past of her own. The bastard daughter of a Russian mobster, she’s never wanted anything to do with the business. She leaves New York when she figures out her boyfriend would forever choose work over the family they created together and in the end, that’s okay with her. She needs more stability than that life could ever give to her. She’s no stranger to who Cillian is and wants nothing to do with him. But of course, life has other plans.
I absolutely loved An Indecent Proposal. Cillian and Olivia were so perfect for each other. He helped her to see that it’s okay to lean on someone while she showed him that it’s okay to care for someone again. It also doesn’t hurt that they have explosive chemistry. I also feel as though An Indecent Proposal has more of a slow burn suspense than the other two books in the series. You know there’s going to be something that happens, but you’re not quite sure what it is until just before it happens. I think Proposal just gives a much more polished, and robust story in the series. It definitely leaves you wanting more and with the introduction of Jude, and the lead in for Sloan’s story, we are left with just enough to get us by until the next book.
